I picked up this Homelite 550 off a scrapper recently. My first time in one of these. I am wondering about the chrome plating. It appears to be worn very thin. I did a quick hone with scotchbrite maroon to see if it would brighten. No go.
My fingers arent too sensitive but the walls feel perfectly smooth. Thoughts?1000000142.jpg1000000143.jpg

It would be interesting to know how much wear the piston skirt has. Did you measure it?
It can sometimes be hard to tell if you’re looking at aluminum or unpolished chrome. Take a sharp-bladed screwdriver and scratch the surfaces lightly. It will be quite obvious if you’re scratching aluminum or chrome.

A screwdriver skates on the wall but scribes into a bare aluminum test area in a lower transfer.
I think I'm gonna clean it up and find a piston.
I see the guys at Chainsawr have an AM piston available.
