Thanks. This stuff is tough and stringy. It laughs with derision at the fiskars. It also shrugs off the 10# maul. Havent had to resort to the wedge in a few years. Good workout thought

Sassafras??? Smell like root beer??

Bark doesn't look really like the locust around here, and locust splits pretty easy.
Mainly black and honey locust around here. Don't see and thorns on it??


I don't see much elm, especially Siberian. Siberia is a long way from Ohio.

I ran into some just like it in a load my girlfriend ordered last year.if it's the same wood it had a bitter like smell to it.

But it depends on where it grows as well, ive seen black locust thats very twisty and hard to split, that grew near the lakeshore.

Fire up a saw and noodle it. We get the odd tree up here that looks like that wood, not a native tree but near impossible to split even with a big hydraulic splitter it shears off more than splits.
