If you were close to going to jail there, then you'll be like home, here.

A good friend of mine moved to Nice a few months ago, and the only thing he want is to come back here.

Sure, they have nice weather, the sea, the sun... but people are the worst, he never shared a drink with his neighbours.

Here, sometimes we have some parties with the whole town. Neighbours are almost like family.
Sounds like a nice place for a vacation! :)

I never understood why people go in packs to tourist areas.
Those places are not what they're supposed to be with all the foreigners. o_O

I like to go visit my sister in Switzerland, small town, down to earth and casual.
Takes a day to get there by car and a day to get back home (at least 12 hours worth of driving one direction) - well worth a two days travel though.
I didn't go this summer, was too tired and stressed from work and just stayed home. :(

Edit:

And Paris...well, Paris is a beautiful city, there's a lots of nice things to see, and I already had some great parties in some old part of the town.

But most of the parisians consider us like peasants, and the city is crazy expensive. A few years ago, I had a ridiculous small pizza for €22, I had to order another one. Her, if you arder for €22, you can't finish your plate most of the time.
Similar situation here, the Croatian folk can barely afford a weeks stay at the Croatian Adria/see.
Prices are hyper inflated, prices on food are ridiculous high!

I've never been to the Adria and most likely never will go.

That's one of the reasons I've never visited the UK or Europe. None of the tours go where I want to go. I want to get my feet on the ground with real people.

You're right, it's better to avoid the south or the capital, they're tourist's traps.

Find a member willing to host You, or at least organize a place to stay.
Will surely make You end up in places Your tourist agency doesn't even know exist.

Europe ain't that big, You could make a Euro Trip visiting European fellow chainsaw nuts.

I live in the suburbs of NY, but I own 50 Acres in the Catskill Mtns, it is Mtn top, 2 mi in on a 4WD Road, no electric, overlooking the Cannonsville Reservoir. It is not zoned for year round living, no mail delivery, and if you call the Fire Dept or Police, they do not have to respond (but they do, if you can get phone service). Cannonsville is the last one in the NYC system, the end of the Catskill Aqueduct (97 miles).

It is about 2,000 feet elevation.

This is a picture from the back of my property, of the Rte 10 bridge crossing the Cannonsville. The Catskill Aqueduct ends there.

That's a fantastic view , that has thrown me as I never thought you had so much greenery and forest in the suburbs

There are lots of places down this way that are still pretty remote but in the summer months it's a joke too many tourists but this summer it's been wet right through so not too bad

Motorcycle, backpack and a list of common phrases in the appropriate language. Most of the people I would most identify with probably don't speak English or understand my version of it.

I built a couple of cellular towers around lake Champlain and between there and Rutland/ Killington Vt. I almost converted to Yankeeism.
Beautiful neck of the woods.
Sadly I also built one in Lowell MA and that brought me to my senses...

those normal tours isnt much to travel for, too many tourist ending up on the same places lol
Best way to visit a country is to find an area you are interested in, book a hotel (or even better if you know someone who live in the area), buy a road map and rent a car.

Not asking for addresses, Im just wondering where some of our international members call home? How far do you live from town, or nearest neighbor? Me I live in a subdivision in West Knoxville. 10 min from Children's Hospital and 3 miles from Walmart. My nearest neighbor is unfortunately within throwing distance.
Every one can participate- just curious to know how broad a reach OPE makes across the globe.
Knoxville sounds pretty remote!!

Years ago I was on vacation and conversing with a guy from TX. We started talking about hunting, and when I told him you could hunt Black Bear in NYS, he thought I was pulling his leg!

I had to explain to him that in addition to NYC, we have the Catskill and Adirondack Mountains. There is State land in the Adirondacks where you can go over 20 miles w/o hitting a road.

Knoxville? The one in TN? If so I live about an hour and ten minutes from you in Sharps Chapel, TN. It isn't maybe 35-40 miles, but takes forever to get here. I would consider it remote when the closest super Walmart is an hour away, I live on a 25,000 acre wildlife management area. The community has grown due to lake house developements, but they are a good 6-7 miles from me.

In the middle of nowhere somewhere in Europe, nearest store 12mi, nearest supermarket 24mi.
No natural gas, only electricity, wood, or coal for heat.
Extremely faint cell signal, nearest neighbor 2mi away, POP around 100, elevation 1500ft.
2nd home Los Angeles, and that has all its big city problems.
