I have a nice white top 61 Practica for sale. It’s a survivor, and the only new decal on it is the clutch cover. The top is in beautiful shape. New fuel line, carb kit, muffler baffle removed. Hoping to get $350 for it plus shipping. I was thinking of putting a 266 top end on it, and can include a cylinder for you if you want. But it runs great with the all original 61 top end.

Would a 266 cylinder fit under that cover ok? And would the intake components need to be changed?

It would fit, I’m almost certain. The intake may be different, not sure. I have an extra intake block for a 266.

Also 162se is the same plug angle. The top cover just has a slightly different profile on the back. So any of those 3 should interchange. Left to right is gray top 61"dyed cuz it wuz ugly", 162se, and a 266se top cover up front. Sorry that on is not finished yet😂20260207_195923.jpg

Normally, yes, but the white tops are different. Or…it is just the single-bolt type…
The white top looks more like the 162se i have. Looking farther in to it its the AF. Does the white top have a flat air filter? Or pointed? Cuz a 162se lid wont fit on a 61/266 with the pointed filter. But a 61/266 lid will fit the 162se with flat filter.....17705167650168200059595410598115.jpg

All the 61s I’ve seen have that flat filter…on the 163 carb.

Nope. The 61 WT will not fit on a 266 with a 266 filter and the normal 224 carb.

Nor will it fit with the 266 filter removed.
So. The problem is with the spark plug or boot...as suspected.

So i see what u r saying about the "single bolt" intake elbow. So basically the lid is dictated by the elbow and filter not the cylinder. So a 61/266 head should fit no prob as long as the same elbow and filter r used. Glad wer figuring this out ,LOL. Sorry to muck ur thread Jack, @jacktheripper just trying to help, then maybe confused myself a time or two along the way. 20260207_205639.jpg20260207_202146.jpg20260207_205646.jpg20260207_202126.jpg20260207_205951.jpg

Well…no. The later 61 covers will work but not the early ones. Just look at the top peaks…space for the plug boots. …

The 266 fits a 162 cuz the bolt pattern is the same, lol

Not true. The filter and elbow are the things that matter. I just checked on my 61 and 266. The 61 cover won’t fit on the 266 due to the air filter. If I removed the filter, it would work. So, a white top 61 could be converted to a 266 and still use the white top if the original air filter setup was also used.
