So I have a stack of bars laying around that need fixed and a bunch of the used saws I've been buying have destroyed bars. What trueing and file tools are you guys using? I want to start trying to fix them instead of just throwing an aftermarket bar and chain at the saw. Also I think it would be good items to tell the girlfriend to buy me for christmas *I'll just give her websites and part numbers*. Thanks for the info guys. I appreciate your time.

Bar rail rollers have been worthless to me...

The only tools I used to much extent are the chainsaw chain rivet punch to pop my bar nose rivets. Bar rail grinder, good set of flat files, and a tool to scrap the rails out. Use a big bench vise to try and bend any kinks out. Anvil on the back of the vise and ball peen to hammer rivets in.

If you are reprinting them a belt sander comes in handy to strip the sides of the bar down.

I rail closer is a nice item. I found the from Forester at my local shop for 25 bucks.

I use my 6x48 belt sander to dress the edges. It's simple and quick. Any disk or belt sander would work. just so it's got a nice 90* bed to rest on.

The other item I use often is my custom screwdriver clean out tool. Just grind a hook ok the end and thin it down to fit the rail groove. It cleans the junk, but also cleans burrs after dressing the rails.

Lol. Sent this before reading black dogs.

Large vise. Big flat files. Old sawzall blade repurposed as groove cleaner. Air compressor. Deburring wheel. Small square (check 90 degree angles).

Those special bar dressing files / holders are nice, but a little pricy ($30)
