Honda brush cutter running string got a sudden vibration a moment or two after I hit a stump. Best I could tell it was just below the powerhead. Definitely not the gearbox. Should I inspect anything other than a sheared flywheel key, or repair/replace anything else while I have it apart?

Output axle/spindle bent, or the brush cutter attachment got a twist/wobble.

You are lucky if it's the latter.

Everything feels good on the attachment/gearbox end. I could feel the vibration at the top of the shaft when it started. Honda puts a key in that's designed to fail before the big stuff gets damaged (allegedly). Will have the flywheel off soon as I get Niners vs. Saints out of the way/

Flywheel key is good. I can feel a wobble in the assembly where the shaft inserts into the clutch cover (1).

This is why I leave stumps either 20" tall, or cut them out several inches deep under the surface.

Only way to know for sure it to take in apart.
If its a twisted cable drive shaft type, the cable can come untwisted under extreme shock. Ive only seen it once on a trimmer I plucked from the trash. If you can run it with shaft attached but without the trimmer head try that to isolate w/e out of balance. Only other thing it could be is the string go wonky if it was caught and pulled too tight inside and its thrown itself off balance. If thats the case the string will likely be fused together in areas, this really doesn't happen in new wound head designs.

Good Luck with in n keep us posted!

Yeh, ended up taking it apart. Spinning the clutch there is a little wobble there. Hope that's all it is. Whole clutch housing assembly $75. Clutch only $65. It doesn't make sense.

Run it in reverse over the same stump to un-wobble it?! :p
