Ok , just curious if I can get away with a brake bleed vac pump for a vac test on a saw. Seems to me this would work, but new to digging this deep. Done many chipper tailgate repairs from oil pumps to a piston on a 200t but never pulled vac or pressure tests.

Thanks for the confirmation, I was thinking this would work. Plenty of steel laying around for plugging things up so now I can pull tests on a couple builders I got laying around.

i make up pieces out of rubber like an old inner tube, cut them out in the shape of the gasket of intake and exhaust gaskets but leave them solid in center then just reinstall carb and muffler and test or you can cut in the shape of a wedge and slip down in between when exhaust and carb are loose the tighten back down with wedges in place.

Sure you can but its a toss up there. If you don't pressure test it also you could miss a leak. The right way to do it would be to do both vac and pressure test. I gather yours only does vac correct?

You can rig up a pressure tester if you have a compressor and have a regulator and a few other small parts laying around.

That was my plan with the steel, drill and tap a gauge implanted for intake side, pump up and go

I use the 8500 for Vac & Pressure, but when I have trouble finding a leak, I put the bike pump on it, just don't use too much pressure. The addl volume makes large leaks a lot easier to find.

Had a lean seized Dolmar land in my lap, so not expecting leaks just trying to be proactive and look before I throw anew piston away. Very low hrs saw, never tore into one this clean yet

I never had trouble with a Mitivac finding a leak. Soapy water all over it or dunk it.

Never mind buying more tools, guess I can give the old one to the kid, make it a little easier to justify it to the old lady
