So, I've nicknamed Jim "the squid", because he squirts ink and disappears. Here's what I got from him so it can be cross checked with those in the know:

He says he traded 5 personal collectible saws for a NOS cylinder for this saw and received no compensation for it.

He says if everyone from the forum had rallied behind him and donated like they do with others the saw would have been finished a long time ago.

He claims the coil is bad on the saw and no one has helped him get one so he can finish the saw.

The saw is incomplete...not sure if there are more parts required other than the coil.

He claims he has retained a lawyer to handle this matter if need be. He can't afford shipping, but he came up with 1,000's of $$ for a lawyer to defend him over a "worn out saw"?

He claims he's asked for shipping funds on many occasions, but no one paid the shipping fees....he says he was just supposed to port the saw. Yes, contradictory to the above.

He claims the saw was completely worn out and he's had to do a complete rebuild on it. What work and parts?....he won't tell me, just claims he had to go above and beyond.

He couldn't give a tally on parts or a total cost for what he feels he's owed...I asked on many occasions, but he totally avoided the question by blaming others on the forum.

Sadly, as many others have said, I don't think this is reconcilable with Jim. He lacks the ability to communicate properly without becoming hypersensitive and argumentative.

At this point, if any saws are returned to members here, it will be entirely on Jim's integrity.

Traded 5 saws for 1 pm700 cylinder? Who the hell is going to believe that *B-S....!!!!

U.S Chrome would refinish it for $250ish if it just happened to be the last pm700 jug on the face of the earth.

And 5 personal saws? Does he collect Mini macs?

Lol. I thought that was a far fetched claim too, Wayne. I told him he should be pis-sed at the guy that made that deal instead of guys on the forum.

Does he sell "parts" on ebay?

And far fetched is putting it lightly. Does he think anyone is really going to believe that?

The fact that he was only supposed to build and port the saw, means all the parts should have come from the owner or members that donated them....logically.

He couldn't answer me when I asked if he confirmed that Jason would pay for a NOS cylinder for the build. In the next email, he said Jason knows his PP and he hadn't paid for shipping.

So, he supposedly asked for shipping fees for an unfinished saw, yet he feels the owner is indebted to him for the parts, but refuses to even discuss the parts cost. Makes no sense to me.

Here's the whole deal. Help was offered....help was given. Jim said the jug was 75 bucks. Nowhere does he mention trading saws for parts.

It turns out this thing is going to need a little more TLC than previously thought.
After getting it cleaned up I found a couple problems. The exhaust might be fixable if the piston skirt is wide enough,

but the divider missing the plating this far up on the transfer is a deal breaker.

I'm hoping there is a good used cylinder available for a good price.

I'm waiting on a reply from a McCulloch parts guy who believes he has a nos cylinder in the box. He's on the road right now and I have to wait a couple hours until he gets home to verify.

Does anyone want this pm700 for 400 bucks? View attachment 169431 View attachment 169432 View attachment 169433View attachment 169434

It's the same guy I'm waiting on the callback from. Maybe I can sell the saw for him to sweeten the deal on the nos cylinder.

No port work or any other modifications appear to have been done.

Oh! I'll ask when he calls, I'm assuming it's completely stock.

I have located a nos cylinder for 75 bucks and I'll be picking it up as soon as possible.

I don't mind letting you and @USMC615 make the call on that. I was so caught up in a panic over the cylinder that I never considered asking the guy with the cylinder if he has any nos or near new clutch covers available.

The day has finally arrived and I now have the correct parts in hand. View attachment 173724 View attachment 173725 View attachment 173723

I'm going to have to ask for help with a few parts on this.
The piston is in good shape and so are the rings, but since this is a nos cylinder I feel like it would be appropriate to at least re-ring it.
It also needs a new fuel line and set of crankcase seals.

I will cover all costs on these. Let’s get this beast running.

That's very kind, Cole. I also would like to, per the agreement between Jim and I pay for the parts. I cant stop anyone from helping though! These are special saws, sure cant wait to be the spectacle it deserves to be.

Thank you very much guys!

I have the cylinder done and ready for reassembly.

The casting was a little rough on it. View attachment 174194 View attachment 174193

All cleaned up. View attachment 174191

I also polished the transfer dividers to prevent the plating from peeling off like the original. I looked at another used pm700 cylinder the other day and it also had that same problem with the chrome chipping away at the transfer. View attachment 174192 View attachment 174195

The seals and rings showed up today!View attachment 174640

Thank you again Steve!!!

More parts to swap out! Now it's the darn coil. I thought I had an extra but I do not. There isn't much left on this thing that hasn't been replaced. The carb is still original, so are the handlebars.
