Used Ms261 price

Looking at picking up this saw on the local Craigslist. Wanted to check in to see what a fair price would be. Guy says it runs, but could use a carb cleaning. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

How old? What color selonoid does it have? What are they asking? I see numbers on the top cover which means it was used commercially.

They’re asking $200. Haven’t seen it in person, so I don’t have much info beyond that. Wanted to see if it was even worth pursuing before I put too much time into it.

For $200 I'd give it a really good look and a peak at the piston and cylinder. That's a nice price.

That was my thought also. Figured even if I had to fleabay a piston, it would be pretty reasonable.

The seller's comments "just needs carb work" send up red flags for me. If it really only needed carb work, most reasonable people would do the carb and keep or sell. More likely overheated and / or air leak. He probably really doesn't know why it runs crappy. Many ads say "just needs carb work"

Unless it starts cuts oils and idles as it should, I only offer for parts saw.

I'd be a player at that price...after a piston peak...maybe without.
I bought a used MS 261c about 4 yrs ago for $160.
It was laser with a 16in bar & more than formidable with an 18 in!
It has easily been my most reliable saw EVER!

Check for wear on the crankshaft stub at the sprocket bearing.
