Usable cylinder?

Is this a usable cylinder? I haven't tried to clean it up because I just bought this saw. It's mint cosmetically but p&c not so much...

I don't think you'll know until you try to clean it up.

I think so too, You need to start cleaning so You get a picture of how severe the damage is.

If You are lucky it is all aluminum transfer and it'll come off little by little with @Mastermind 's method.

Looks like a 046 Mahle D cylinder?
I'd venture to say it will be ok once it's cleaned up but the only way to know for sure is to clean it up and inspect it. Fingers crossed

It's a 440 cylinder I think it will clean up it's carbon scoring I believe. Piston has zero carbon build up on it but it's scored as well. Not sure if it will clean up or not

I reckon it will clean up pretty well. Just do as much by hand as possible, i.e. stay away from the rotary tools if you can. Hard to tell from photos but doesn't look horrible.

That doesn't look like any kind of aluminum transfer to me. It looks like those dark lines that show up in brand new cylinders within a tank or two of run time.

I agree. That doesn't look to have any transfer on it. I suspect it got really hot, but just shy of melting the piston. I would run a ball hone or scotchbrite through that and see how it looks.

That piston looking through the port doesn't look that bad .I have good running saws that looked worse .Just remember usually a low spot won't hurt you .It's the high spots that break the surface tension of the oil film that will .
