I just hit the rivet heads with my bench grinder to break the chain ,you don't even really need a spinner ,can peen the tie strap pins down with a small hammer ,the spinner looks pretty though .

yeah, I know, I got dental drills... I can break anything, but a breaker would be more elegant.

I've used a ball peen hammer plenty. better to have a spinner

Breaker also works on bar rivets.

The breaker also lets me re-use tie straps. Not a big issue for some guys, but important if you need or are trying to match a certain size or type. Using a scrap drive link as a die (placed over the anvil), I can punch out the rivets from the used pre-set and use that as a tie strap as well.
