Wayne (dub11) has a nice ported 6100 for sale in the classifieds right now.

You can scratch both itches, PS-5105 & PS-6100!

Don't fight it, resistance is futile, might just as well yield and enjoy the ride.

I do not feel that my PS-550 (equivalent to EA5600) bogs down easy!
Mine wears a 18" 3/8" B&C setup and does so with pride, still a 100% factory stock.
Just saying.

And, welcome to OPEForum!

Thanks for the welcome, guess I should have introduced myself. I’m a wood carver/sculpture/“artist”(well that’s what I file with the IRS) and like to put up a few giveaways when I join a new form.

I just dropped half a dozen white birch and the ea5600 whipped through like nothing! But when getting into the dead standing black locust, that I’ve been trying to harvest for firewood she gets a little cranky. It’s funny two of my friends that run huskies tried it and hated it. They both eat a lot of paint chips as kids. I’m still using the stock chain and 18” bar

do you know of anyone that’s played with upgrades on the ea5600?

By the sound of my PS-550 a muffler mod is mandatory, I have yet to mod mine though.
Some timing advance might give her a little more attitude as well.
The air filtration is already very good, similar to the one on the PS-6100.

I run 18" 3/8" full chisel on mine, Oregon Vanguard with altered rakers.
I really like my PS-550, can't point out any faults on her.

Is there anyone that you know of that’s done a muff mod on one? I’m definitely interested

Take the muffler off and see if it has a cat. If it does. I heat the crimp and use a screwdriver to un-crimp the muffler and remove the cat. Then reassemble without the cat. Make sure you use heat to crimp it back together . then i take vice grips and crimp the entire seam and reinstall.

I am not a 100% certain, but I think Sondre @SOS Ridgerider had his hands on a EA5600 muffler.
I might be wrong though.

I have to do my PS-550's muffler, when I do I will take pictures and post them.

Hey guys, not been on in a while, but have a little problem. Started a project 4130 and it had drug out so long, I'm getting nervous about putting it back together without a manual. Would anyone be able to send me a parts list to make sure I get the correct screws and such back in the correct holes?

This one is a trial project, the piston was marked pretty back where the transfer chambers are, and had one pretty good score that had stuck the ring. So compression was horrible. I've smoothed up the piston and the ring is in good shape and loose now. I just picked up some scotch bright to clean up the score on the cylinder, and will start the reassembly.

Ok guys before the rock throwing begins, I already have the manual downloaded.... Wow, should have done a quick search first.

I've been gone so long I forgot how good this site was!

Thanks to all for the link to the manuals!

And happy Thanksgiving to all!

That would be great!
I did a couple of 550/5600 mufflers a while back. I'll see if I can find the pics somewhere. It definitely gets snappier on the throttle after a mod.
I did one where the muffler is gutted, but looks stock, and one where I added an outlet.

@166 Has the saw. Maybe he can share a pic or two.

Hay guys/gals/other thanks for all the info on the saws! I’ve been a long time fan of dolmar! My grandfather had two large sachs when I was growing up. We also had a few dolmar cut off saws. My dad and I have a timber king sawmill and cut 25+ cords of firewood a year. He was a jonhshred fan until he bought som 036 pros and now he’s been a stihl fan. He’s got 4-5 236. They are ok but I liked my 266xp better, way easier to start for my bad shoulders, and my father in law gave them to me. He was a logger and didn’t like them. Some Dbag stole them this spring. I’ve been using a clapped 026, until I figure out what I was going to do. My wife over heard me talking to my brother in law(logger) about getting a ea5000 or ea6000. She grabbed me a ea5600 as a surprise thinking it would be splitting the difference lol. I’m pretty impressed with it but know I’ll want the complete pro saw. Super bummed about makita giving the line the axe! Would you pick up the 5000 or 6000 if you could only have one?im looking used too but not finding squat. Thanks V

I'd definitely go with the 6000/6100. Get it ported and it will scream!

6100 and 7900 is my favorite combo. Of a 5105, 6100, and 2 7900. 6100 and 1 7900 are ported.
6100 is definitely the workhorse with 24" bar.

Great job! There’s certainly a lot of room there, the first thing I noticed about the saw is how little the muffler was compared to the saw, now I know how my wife felt the first time. Thanks for posting the pictures. I definitely need to get mine done. How did you tweak after?

These are some fun little saws to work with. Has just been rebuilt (new rings, fuel line, etc. etc.) Runs great with good power in the cut. Just bucked some logs with a 18" bar and 3/8 full chisel chain pulled it with ease.IMG20201126185940.jpg IMG20201126185924.jpg

After a muffler mod you’ll need to richen it up a bit. Small adjustments on the carb settings. Screw you H screw out until you hear a burble out of the wood at WOT. Then check it in a piece of wood. It should clean up under load, but go back to a light burble when you lift it up with no load.
