What does it do? I see where it wore into the case. Just not sure of it's purpose.

If you do not put it in the notch,the oil will not pump, or will be sporadic at best. I have "repaired" a few that way...

The saw I'm working on came in a box.After seeing the notch,I get how it's works. Gotta love puzzle's.
