HELP! Stihl MS290 starter pawl

Got a 290 to fix for a customer and the starter pawl is shredded. Any reason to upgrade to dual or just put a single back in and run it? OEM vs aftermarket?

They are pretty generic. AM seem to work fine. If you go dual you need the other spring as well.

Is there a big benefit to using the dual or not really?

Absolutely. It's more than twice as strong because the load is balanced. I always upgrade them to dual pawl, especially if I use aftermarket parts.
