A guy phoned me last week and said that Stihl sold the 1/2 wrap heated handles for the 462 and 661. I phoned a couple Canadian dealers and they said they would get back to me the next day...that was last week. I am not looking for complete saws just the handles to see if they are available.

The MS460 arctic handles are still available through Stihl USA. One would think, then maybe not, that later model handles would be available.

STIHL?!? Good luck getting anything other than your regionally prescribed combination by the local STIHL distribution center. Slim chance in my experience. Even though these combinations are readily available nationally and may be popular. I tried getting 3/4 wrap handles for pro-grade saws from the STIHL South East distribution center- no luck(read "snow-balls chance in Hell" at the dealer level).

Even trying to a get a reasonable and basic power-head/bar combination(MS 462v2 standard carb/non-M-Tronic w/ 25" light bar) was a "No-Go" for me here recently. Only the standard(heavy) bar with said power-head could be sold. Had to go up to the MS500i for the 25" light bar combo. PITA to say the least. And I am a long time STIHL fanboy. STIHL is pricing and servicing themselves out of much of the market IMO.

My last three saw purchases were: two Husqvarna and one Echo. No regrets

You may have to go online to get what you want if you are set on STIHL. Read: EBAY

I have had too

Seriously a PITA.

Signed, STIHL Fanboy

Agreed .

I would rather deal with those I can phone(or email with) who have real world cutting experience rather than an in-experience key-board puncher, looking up parts numbers, with no real world saw experience telling me what is or is not reasonable. YMMV

That is why I pay an extra $5.34 a month or calling to Canada.

Again, YMMV. Dealerships vary I am sure.

And locally I have a very good STIHL dealer. But they have a "lane they must stay in" and rules to follow according to the regional distributor.

To each his own I guess

On-line, EBAY and Amazon correct many of these STIHL issues I guess. Husqvarna and Echo are ahead of STIHL in this area by a wide margin it seems.

Again, I say this as a STIHL fan-boy

I have no idea what "YMMV" means but hell I just speak common folk...........
Hell I just sent a card to my son who has the initials OMG but when we named him I had no idea what that meant

YMMV.

Is a common acronym on other forums; ie, Your Mileage May Vary. So in other words, YMMV

Different experience, difference oppinion.

Don't feel bad, I dated a younger girl who mostly text message for communication. Her vernacular via text had me spinning. I was lost for quite a while.

To add, I am usually the old one in the room while hitting 50'ish years of age. I have to laugh(and feel a little bit better age wise) here on-line when I get on these forums. Big smiley face. Kudos

I would guess getting one from across the pond is your best bet. I had to source the heated parts for a 500i from overseas.
