I can't believe the guys obsessing on the price of a item that costs a $1000 give or take. A smart phone costs as much. A snowmobile may cost as much as 24x more. Buy a 3/4 ton diesel new like many guys have and your going to have 70k into it min.
Saws just aren't that expensive as a hobby and for work they can be written off.

I just talked to a guy in the UK who was a famous phone sex extraordinaire and he said the US delivered 400s won't smell like fish and chips, he also confirmed the 10k rumor on the price tag. He did tell me that in Germany the current 400s being made smell like a combination of Curry and Schnitzel but Stihl is doing what they can to kill the smell, time will tell.

So which battle is gonna get pointlessly argued the most ?

400 vs 400

400 vs 562

400 vs 620

400 vs 881

400 vs Prince Harry

I can't wait.
I think Prince Harry would probably try decapitating himself with it at this point. Or maybe do the world a favor before he turns it on himself....

Pretty sure but I still have it tucked away. I’ll pull at down and look again.
Only if you consider that the 1-2% magnesium content of alloys such as 2618 or 4032 used often for pistons, entitles you to call them “mag pistons”.

Pure magnesium has a much worse thermal conductivity than aluminum: 156 W/m*K vs. 237 W/m*K (more than 50%). Even if the difference between the aluminum and magnesium alloys used by Stihl is not so great (which I doubt), it still means that a “magnesium” piston will be much hotter than an “aluminum” one. This certainly doesn't help reliability.

Need to wait a while to make sure Stihl does not want it, but I may get a MS400 that is only a few days old. Train wreck inside. My suspicion is the people were running a little scam to get a job done and get their money back. But, whatever.
I'll post some photos if it goes my way.
