Hi Lads, I was taking apart a 390 I just got in to clean and get in shape.
I took off the Clutch cover and out fell a perfect ball of chip junk and bar oil, I have no idea how it managed to form in that little pocket, anyone else come across this before?
Here’s a video -

Also, I got her cleaned up and she peed fuel everywhere when I filled up and tried to start, so I checked all the lines took the filter of etc, and decided to try to start without the filter.
She started but was throwing fuel out the back of the carb while running rough. The carb was only open a 1/4 turn on both jets but a heap of fuel was spraying out the back.
I’m new to this game, what am I missing?

Cheers guys.

I have seen these before, I think it happens when you have the right amount of crud and moisture and the vibrations end up making these little crud pearls. They are easier to clean out (just tilt the saw on its side) than having to go through with a screwdriver.

The correct vibrations, saw dust & oil create those.

I have found them within the chain brake mechanism on my large frame Dolmar's.

As for the carb question, spit back is fairly severe on the 390's, partly due (I think) to their extremely restrictive muffler. They use a good carburetor that is usually very reliable, at least compared to their modern Zama's.

That’s interesting, I brought the carb home to soak it in the ultra sonic cleaner in the hopes that might be part of the problem.

I suppose the clean can’t hurt, but it’s good to know it’s fairly common anyways.

Thanks for that, super helpful

Of course, they can still have issues, but not usually past stiff diaphragms.
