I’m new to the forum so I hope I’m posting this in the correct section. I recently bought an 076 AV Super which is in great original condition and runs awesome. I swear the dang thing oiled fine when I bought it. It sat for a couple weeks, and went to try it out.... not oiling at all. The manual oiler button works great but NO auto oil at all. So I broke down the bar and chain to find the oil passages and groove all gummed up. So I cleaned that out, as well as around the clutch/sprocket. I also cleaned out the oil tank until there was no more dust/chips, popped the screen out of the pick up which was clean. Filled the tank, ran it, still not oiling out the side of the power head. I took apart the clutch and sprocket assembly and verified that the oil drive washer and drive nut were in good shape so it appears as though the pump is being driven. I’m about to take the pump out the front of the case. I got the white cover and the snap ring out, but this thing is pretty stubborn to come out. Can anyone who is familiar with these 041/051/075/076 style saws educate me on the proper way to get the pump out? I have tried running a small metric bolt into the threaded portion and prying, but not too hard. I’m guessing I need to use some more force but I’m trying not to damage anything. Also, any ideas as to why this thing won’t auto oil? I’ve heard much info about the O-rings leaking on these saws and filling the crankcase, etc. Two things I did also notice: The first time I tried the saw after it sat for a couple weeks it smoked more than I thought it should. Possibly bar oil in crankcase? It has not done that on tests since then, but I’ve stored it w the oil tank empty. Also, when I take the guide bar studs out, oil comes out the stud bores. Oh and parts seem to be a bit scarce; is there a good source? I’ve found some old stock and used stuff on eBay and the like so I’m pretty sure I can piece it together. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum. Great to have you onboard. I moved your thread to the general chainsaw page where it’ll see more traffic.

Yeah the bar stud threads go straight into the bar oil tank.
To remove the oil pump use a 5mm bolt and thread into the pump and it should pull out, if it's hard use something to get some leverage on it. It will come out.
Ask for a service manual, someone will pm you a copy.
I'm away from home so I can't at the moment.

Ok, thank you! Will the bolt bottom out on anything behind it and push the pump out like running a bolt into a brake rotor will push off a stubborn brake rotor? Or is it simply insert as many threads as possible and pry on bolt head? Yes a service manual would be awesome. I can pull my 460 apart, but this beast is a bit different. I found an IPL diagram in another thread so I’m good on part numbers once I identify the culprit.

Welcome to the nut house, I would love to see pic's of your saw. I think the 075 and 076 series of
saws are great saws. The bad is some do vibrate quite badly and others are smooth. I have all of
them, 075, 076 and 076 super. I did have a late 075 with side oil fill but i sold it. As others have
said just use the 5mm bolt and the pump should come out.

Pulled the pump and....well it’s all F’ed up. The O-ring is gone completely, the rubber ring is falling apart and it looks like someone took a ball peen hammer to the splines on the end of the piston shaft which also looks slightly bent, and the spring is wedged under and bound. No wonder the old girl won’t oil. Thanks guys for all the helpful info and now it’s parts search time. See photos. Am I correct that the worm type nut that rides on the crankshaft is what mates up to the piston shaft splines of the oil pump? If so, I will replace the worm too so there’s a good lash. Yeah I love these old saws. Here’s some pics of the old girl. Not the best photos, I’ll get some better ones up once I get it back together. Both case halves are pretty clean and top covers good too. Underside and muffler cover have the most wear marks. I’d love to really go over this thing and get the muffler cover and top covers redone.

Looks like a low use 076 and definitely a true super with the high rise intake. I have one also but needs to be put back together and also an 075. Really not sure if the extra 1/2” spacer and different carb makes much more power or not.

I have to say I love these saws. Waaaaay different feel than the new ones. I know they’re super heavy and I wouldn’t want to work one all day but there’s nothing like the feel of a solid all metal saw in your hands. I got this because I want to get into milling but I almost feel bad working this saw that hard.

Thanks man.
Got it with a 36” tsumura bar, a 25” Stihl ES bar, A handful of new chains for each, carb rebuild kit, and a case of VP premix 40:1. That was a great ride home lol.

I mill with my 075 and my 090, tune it fat and mix it 40:1 with good synthetic oil and give the saw a rest now and then. Must have over 300 slabs here and probably 90% of them were cut with the 075 or 090
