Hello from Croatia a small country in europe. This is my first post on here so tolerate me if i make some mistakes thank you.

So i bought a second hand stihl 064. Saw runs but theres none of that mythical power that i read about. So i went to check its compression and it was at best dissapointing. The number never went over 120 psi (i checked the gauge). And after that great news i decided to try and find a p/c kit but then i stumbled upon a few threads about 066 p/c upgrade.
Well now the fun begins i took the flywheel cover off and suprise suprise i find a poly flywheel. I searched heavily and i couldnt find any info that 064 came with poly flywheel only 066.
So long story short can some help me identify what i have infront of me(saw,flywheel,coil).20210319_181111.jpg 20210318_171512.jpg 20210318_170824.jpg 20210319_173034.jpg 20210318_172838_HDR.jpg

Since you are already planning on rebuilding it and it's not much of a runner atm go ahead and pull the jug and measure it.

Someone rebuilt your saw with an 066/MS-660 crankcase. The 066/660 poly flywheel will not fit or work on the 064 crankshaft.

It could also be that someone simply put an 064 tank and top cover on a poly flywheel 066 chassis.

It also has the wrong coil, which is likely part of the reason you find the performance underwhelming.

Thank you for detailed answer you helped me alot.
Now can i bother you with a couple of questions.
What is the right coil for this saw/flywheel?
And is the walbro wj10 carb the right carb for this saw?

That's an 066 bottom end, notice your starter cover sticks out past the top cover. Serial number tells me it's a '97-'98 model
Thank you for the infos
Are there any special things to know about that year model?

The poly fly wheel is correct. Since it's really a 066 with a 064 handle and 064 top cover.

That tank handle came on 066 big or small bearings. The mag air box cover is 064 only. The 066 is plastic with a different carb box. They do interchange as complete units but the top cover must go with it. Not sure about clearing jug fins.

Red throttle control shaft is right as well, probably a limited coil 064 once upon a time. Only thing really off about the saw is the bottom end and starter.

Can that coil be used on an 084?

JJ and others built many more of those than I. My main 1122 saws on the bench were usually 660's. Flipped one 660 but kept all the other older models. Never got a decent 064. They went for parts years ago cooked and dirty. The 066 was scare around here in early model saws. Passed on most of the 650's and flipped one real nice minty saw just came up one day online.

Coil appears to be off of some 064/066. Looks like a 1122-400-1300 but I could be wrong. I know I have a 1122-400-1300 somewhere because my old rat crap 066 has a Ducati coil.

And one more question what are your thoughts about meteor p/c kits? I read a lot that meteor pistons are good quality but not a lot about their cylinders. I took a peak in my cylinder and its ragged at best and its not oem. In my area this saw is not so common so second hand oem cylinders are rare as hens teeth.

Port timing leaves a lot to be desired on Meteor cylinders.
According to different threads on this site.
No first hand experience myself.

064 or 066? You can still get both in OEM
For 066. Thats great news i will check with my dealer for p/c and coil to get this frankenstein of a saw back to its glory.
Will a wj10 carb work on this saw or i need to find another one and do i need oem carb rebuild kits or AM is good enough?
