I completely rebuilt the saw. It is all oem except for the air filter.
New piston kit
Bearings
Gaskets
Seals
Etc.

The saw has 150 psi compression, but it has an ignition timing issue. It will jerk the rope from your hand and won’t start. It has broken two starter ropes. The gas tank does not leak but it has a small plastic patch on the inside. Two part plastic was poured in and allowed to setup inside the tank (upper corner). I’ve repaired several tanks this way and it always works. $350 plus shipping. I’m ready to move on to the next build.

I’ve rebuilt 5 1128 stihl saws and never had an issue until now. The piston is not backwards and the crank, crankcase, gas tank and cylinder are original to the saw. I did have it running once and it sounded good.

You may have sheared the flywheel key and advanced the timing enough to where it's kicking on the starter
I had a timing key in which the whole side of the key had been shaved so it could rock back and forth in the keyslot and made it possible to advance the timing siginificantly more than the .020 that had been taken off the key. The saw would blow the starter handle right out of your hand like no saw I have ever felt. Swapped the key out to stock and it starts like a dream now.

I changed the timing key for another one and it runs good. Now I am going to sell it as a runner.

It runs really well and oils well, so the new price is $450

The key wasn’t sheared, I think it was too narrow
