i have a stihl 044 which cuts great and runs strong for about 1 min or so. then it just quits, stall, and i can not get it to start up again for 5 or 10. then will start again and cut out. it does not bog down ruring the cut, but will die rather just after the cut. as i can tell it's about to happen i try to increase throttle but it doesn't seem to matter. i've had the saw in the shop and the compression is correct, the fuel line good, the air filter, exhaust and plug are good and it seemed to check out there according to what i imagine, were their limited cut tests. could this be a coil problem? does anyone have any suggestions?

Do not keep trying to cut with it very possible you have a air leak check the intke boot.

Maybe try a carb rebuild.

thanks for all the suggestions. the mechanic did get a specific level of compression(i don't recall what it was, although he did say plenty of compression and the compression held) . i will check the air intake boot as well as the vent on the tank and will try switching out the coil.

Keep us posted what it is, but either the coil or tank vent would be good guesses IMO.

There may also be some dirt that got in the carb that intermittently clogs things, or a fuel like that got soft and crushes after a bit.
