I've owned my 10 mm 044 since new 12/92 and never had any problems. For 18 years it was my only saw. Used to run it on 50:1, but now that it is modded, I run it on 40:1 like Jeremy recommends.

It runs very strong for not being ported, has HD-2, dp muff cover, gasket delete and timing advance.

It bucked up all this Oak & Hickory with less than one tank of gas and a 28" B&C.

I'm Sure Mike yeah in about 10 15 minutes 0r so with that rig, the failures I spoke of were experienced by west coast commercial Faller/loggers, just was told to me by the Chehalis, WA PNW Stihl rep who was frequently in Centralia WA aka Madsens

FWIW my brother Louis has one just like yours has run it the same way you describe, execept never ran it on anything less than 40:1. He has never had a problem, in fact the old girl has worn out several sets of rim sprockets and a couple of hard nose 20" Stihl bars with his tree business, I put a new piston in it for him in 2006 with base gasket delete/opened the exhaust a bit and timing advance and it runs like a scalded dog,,, I tried to buy it off him and he just laughed at me

And I might add brother Louie ran the loading/haul out equipment most of the time on his tree jobs,,, and my nephews did all the ball bustin!!!!!!!! So his 044m stayed locked up in his tool box until the boys got behind on the job,,, I stihl get to run it every now and then,,, firewooding once or twice a year he sold the Tree Business several years back and just uses a Caterpillar Hydro-Axe and a Cat. 317 series Track hoe w/thumb grab for loading out his land clearing jobs... The oldest boy owns the grapple hauling trucks and the youngest just sold the stump grinders last year and just trains Duck Hunting Dogs,,, And Louie fishes alot!!!

Parts came in and she's back together. 2 pulls and pop, one more, and off she went. I'll give it a go in some wood tomorrow if I get a chance. There's a touch of blow by on the piston, but no scoring, and the machine marks are still on it from top to skirt. There's a pic, but I can't get a good shot of the piston, but you get the idea.IMG_1395.JPGIMG_1396.JPGIMG_1413.JPG
