I have done this for one Echo saw (500 EVL) and it worked. The saw runs fine today after five years, but I have never removed a ring from a Stihl chainsaw primarily because Stihl parts are more readily available. To my knowledge, there is no single-ring piston available for an 026.

Why do you ask?

There is not. The 44mm can use a Husky 246 piston with some machine work.

The lower ring gap is close to the intake, trying to avoide ring snag.

Yeah, and the lower ring is in the intake port at BDC. Gotta watch that and leave the PTO side roof factory to keep it well tucked.

I run them with a single ring all the time. As said above, just run top ring. No detriment at all.

Okey, thank you. I will only use the top ring, so I can wide the intake. This is only an expiriment, with farmertech cylinder. It will get a oem when I have find out some good porting numbers and shape.

I'm running Doc's 44.7mm ported oem. Bottom ring deleted. It's fire! I imagine the piston is lighter than a single ring.
