I'd tighten it up with the spark plug. Then leave it alone !!!!!!Another Q…
How do you torque down the insert itself? Use a 14x1.25 bolt? I’ve been looking for some sort of insert tool.
I don’t have a plug repair kit so am improvising to try and salvage this cylinder.

I need to do this repair on a 395xp jug…hope it works!
Yeah, but you have talent beyond your level of acceptance of that fact.Seems like they never do. I just welded 3 cylinders that had failed inserts.
Well, that’s what the last guy didI'd tighten it up with the spark plug. Then leave it alone !!!!!!
LMAO
Saw that, wondered about it.One more thing...I've used Hot Lock on a few inserts, it seems to be pretty good stuff.
Muffler thread/insert repairs too.

the timesert stuff looks like it might work.I believe I recognize one of those cylinders...it had a BIG hole in it.
The "Sav-A-Thread" kits come with the swaging tool to open the top and lock it in place. If you promise to sent it back, I'll put this one in the mail to you on Tuesday.

Alternatively I can take some better photos with a scale and you can probably come up with something on your own.
If you insert is actually at Time Sert I have a surplus of the installation tool/driver that expands them into the oversize holes to lock them in place.

The guide is actually 92130...

Or, all of the above, lolThe kit for those has an expansion tool that you seat on the top of the insert and strike with a hammer.
It expands the upper ring to seat in the top of the plug hole. Maybe someone didn't seat it well enough -
You might be able to fabricate an expansion tool if you have an old 1/2" drive socket extension you can
modify, or a bog punch of some sort. Threading it in with the product Randy mentioned might work
without mechanically seating it.
I figure I could lock it in place With a small cold chisel in the combustion chamber. A couple punches should do it. After the Loctite cures…Swaging didn’t work on my xtorque. Red *hi temp* loctite has been holding a couple years now.
Hm, roll pin in the chamber…hm…I thought about grinding a small divot out of the aluminum and punching the steel insert into it. Or drilling a 1/16” hole thru the edge of the insert and the aluminum and putting a roll pin in.
I think whoever did this didn’t know what he was doing. This is a time sert type insert that was not inset in the first place. I’ll try to correct that first and go from there.I think I’d just put it back in with high temp JB weld. I’ve used that to patch all kinds of blow outs on the exhaust side of heads.
Other idea would be to thread it in and give it a touch from the tig torch to fuse the top thread and then run the tap back through from the inside side …..if the angle allows the tap to fit?
