So it turns out there is a solution to those trashy cans that spill everywhere. It just cost a fortune. I got this one through work for a discount. Its the 1 gallon oval can. I wanted to try it before laying out bucks for a big one. This holds enough fuel to take into the woods for firewood or felling. I plan to get a 5 gallon can to keep on the truck for tree work. If you have the spare money give them a try. 20220402_160855.jpg

I have a 5 gallon eagle metal can I bought at lowes , comes with a funnel that fits onto it that can easily fill up a saw or in my case my Husqvarna combi gas/oil can I take out into the woods. I think the eagle can was 50 bux if I remember right. I’m not a fan of those plastic no spill cans. The gasket always fails after a while and they leak everywhere. Oh and if it rains on the can if you leave it outside… and it has a leaky gasket… water gets in them. Ask me how I know.

Strange - I’ve run the NoSpill plastic cans with the yellow spigot top with the green button for almost 10 years and have never had an issue. I own 3 of the 2.5 gal that rotate in/out of the pickup for filling saws and then one 5 gal for filling the lawn mower at home. Original parts on all of them. No leaks in or out.. I only put non-oxygenated gasoline in mine.

The problem occurs when people don't check the gasket and eventually let it fall out. Lots of people just toss loose gaskets regardless of the container whether for food or gas, then it no longer functions properly. I would prefer a smaller spout on the No Spill, and affordable replacement parts for any gas can. Sometimes a new spout costs more than half a new complete can.

Unpopular opinion, for mixed gas I prefer the sealed epa cans. The 2 gal Midwest brand ones are perfect for storing a months worth of mix. I know mine are still airtight because they shrink and expand in these cold months. With a chainsaw or trimmer I like that they pour slowly as well. Anything four stroke with a bigger tank I prefer the old style cans with the vents. Either that or I grab a funnel and take off the nozzle on the can.

We are SUPPOSED to use those at work. Most either use a dolmar or No Spill Jill can. If it is in quantities over 2 1/2 gallons, we have to use a safety can.

We have a bunch of them justrite cans. They make 1” and 5/8” hoses for them. The 5/8 are nice for saws and weedeaters. Just watch them sliding around a truck or trailer, actually I think the no venting is the problem. They expand and contract and weaken the metal. Causing holes. I flapped disc’d the one to try and patch. Then wised up and trying to get replaced.E9CAA494-28FE-4F37-87E3-684D1919FFD1.jpeg2F903457-DCA5-484D-B4E9-BD6A3B2C1661.jpeg

My favorite gas cans are the ones I find out on the highway. I guess they fall out of truck beds or something. Found a 5 gallon EZ Can (very similar to No Spill) that still had labels on it last week.

Up by me Tractor Supply sells a "Water Can Spout Kit" that has a vent-free spout and a vent piece so you can convert your compliant cans to the good ol' vented straight pour can. Or, you can do like my dad does and put a self-tapper into the handle of the plastic cans and when you're pouring you unscrew it and the can will be able to vent freely. I've yet to see any issues with that setup.
