Jes, they can be converted.

Stihl eben mades a HD filter conversion kit.

I just sold a 12mm 044 yesterday to a local guy. $550 with a new aftermarket 24" bar and chain. It did have the HD filter but wasn't as nice as the one in this ad.
The price for this listing seems very appropriate but saw sales have been pretty slow around these heah parts.
