Has anyone done any modification to the mounting holes on an ignition coil? Or does anyone know if it would effect the function of the coil adversely?

You should be able to slot the coil no problem. You just have to hold the plates together when slotting them. I have slotted them a bunch for 272 coils on 7900 and 066 coil on 9000 you can even see I cut the whole back off this one.

Thanks man, I'm building a compressor and I'm trying to get this old Briggs running to push the dual piston head I have. It will make enough cfm to run a decent media blasting set up for prep when powder coating.

Yeah but shipping time takes quite a while Where I live, and I have a spare coil off another motor that's dead. It's got the same radius for the flywheel the holes were just a little too close together
