As the title states. I got a buddy who loves my 660 kit saw. Even more after the impulse line was replaced. And we have a problem. He has a 16' alumacraft I want. I have a saw he wants. So. Were making a deal. Being that the 660 is to heavy for his liking. He wants me to build him one in the 70cc range. But, it comes with stipulations. Must have a bigger bore then stock. Must have a popup piston. Must be a kit saw. And for $550 or less when i hand it to him. So, I'm asking all who would read this. Brand don't matter. What would you recommend? I'm looking for as much advice as your willing to type. I thought I read some time ago about ms440's with a 460 jug or something a while ago. Maybe a 372xp?

Thanks in advance.

Find a husky 61 and throw a 272 head on it with a hyway pop up.

And after watching some treemonkey videos I nixed my pop up piston dreams.

Doesn't have a popup piston but the 361 kit with a BB kit is a pretty good saw. Gut the muffler and put a 390 carb on it. Happy with mine. Only 66cc but how big of a tree is he going to cut?

If you think your friendship is strong enough to get through some inevitable defugalty's that are sure to happen I would say go to HL Supply and get the 372 Husqvarna style kit saw and the Hyway big bore pop up kit. This should leave enough left over to do some upgrades like fuel and impulse lines, piston pin bearing, rings and anything else that comes along the way.
The 440 kits have been problematic and not sure if everything is sorted out with them or not.
You can do this same thing with a used real saw just as well. ;)

For the price would go with the route @Dub11 recommended. A quality used pro saw can be had in the price range and will outlast a kit saw.
There is a severe lack of used pro saws in my area. Anything close to that is driving or delivery charges. We got hours of corn fields in any direction before we find one for sale.

Besides. He's helping feed my addiction. And that's the fun part!

We are expecting things to be weeded out. He knows of the ups and downs of my 660.

Might have to look into this. I have been looking for something to use just for a marker. This could be a good back up and marker.
I've got 4 of those and 2 372 hi top versions.
I've only trimmed most of the g off the circlips or used oem.
swapped fuel and pulse line's to
Quality echo the supplied line's suck.
They ran as any 365 does
But i swapped them out for 372s
I've got over 20 gallons through the first one
With a 268 popup piston and oem 372 cylinder.
Broke a kill switch and changed out a leaking case gasket
Can't speak for every company that makes
These clones but these have been great.
