Just went and measured it again to confirm.

Mahle 066 with 066 piston and stock gasket - 95/118/80
Mahle 066 with 288 piston and stock gasket - 92/114/78
Mahle 066 with 288 piston and no gasket - 94/116/79

by my calcs if I take .070 off the base and run a gasket, I will get close to 98/121/82 and I can live with that every day of the week

Yeah I know and I have 2 cylinders the same which really poops me up the tree.

If I take a heap off the base with an 066 piston my intake will end up down at about 85 which would be counter productive.

The 288 piston is the savior of the crap times 066 cylinder.

I still like my 064 better. Wow its good at 14000 RPM :)

Oh ya! I love my 064! Ran a few 660s that had the torque with a long bar but give me the ported 064 with less weight and a 28 es light and that makes me smile everytime

If it were toast it would be burned toast, has a bazillion hours on it, went through 6 rings, the piston was stippled at the last to keep it from slopping around in the bore the chrome is almost gone. Thanks for your reply huskihl

Tor R, the old wore out cylinder is a Mahle.
.

I have a good oem 254 cylinder and meteor piston if you are interested in that.

While I do fully appreciate what you are saying here and yes I could still get it to go pop fooey, this guy is in the 10% by your reckoning, he used to work with the R&D department et Yamaha back in the 70's, so he knows a thing or two and specifically wanted a new cylinder for this saw, the only reason I did not buy OEM was it was in such poor shape overall and needed so many parts to be serviceable again, that to keep the price in check, as it is now between HL and Husqvarna just over $500.00 is already spent. A rational person would have junked this saw, but he loves that darn thing and wants it good again, so here I go. And I'm not making a dime from this either, like I said, he's my cousin and just beat cancer so whatever I can do to make what time he's left here on earth a happy one, I will do just that.

To bad you have some much invested already. I have a very nice ported 254 for sale. They are very nice saw's stock and just monster's ported. Good luck on your build.

Im not good at building saws but i can build one hell of a 2 stroke mower.
Had a friend at a machine help me open the transfer ports on this engine they happen to go all the way around the cylinder, Replaced all the bearings and seals and put a 20.00 set of perfect circle chrome moly rings in it. Compression cold is 135 lbs. engine uses a later model updated jug from a early 90's model muffler is opened up slightly on the inside but is still quiet.
