How much room was there in the back of the cab Sondre?
Seems it would have a weird feel to it with the cab being independent from the chassis.
There was enough for a bunk, rather narrow compared to the US trucks, but it was ok. This one had an upper bunk too, but I used it for storage mostly.
Had a small fridge and good amounts of storage space. Passenger seat swiveled and reclined, so I could put my feet up in the bunk and lay back.
Best part about the cab was the completely flat floor. Could walk around in there. No tunnel to worry about. Made mornings easier to get dressed. Lol. Even had a mirror in there. Didn’t have to come out looking like the boogeyman. Lol

It had a very distinct feel to it, for sure. They were very recognizable as the cab kinda nods in turns. Feels kinda disconnected until you get used to it. I’m sure Andrew @ajschainsaws has seen his fair share of these around.
Very comfortable to drive. Sat like in a regular car.

Lift axles are very common in the Scandinavian countries too. Can override the system and lift it at full weight, putting all the weight on one driving axle. Around 40k lbs. Hardly ever need chains if you know what you’re doing. Some conditions obviously required it, though.

Turned out real nice, at least from pictures :). So did it take him all that time to get it finished, or did it take him a while to swing by to say hi.
Looks like a pretty bad accident.

Cabovers have come a long ways. The cab itself have their own suspension now

We don't see them much here, pretty much all the big trucks have a hood except the coaches/buses.
I wouldn't drive a big truck unless it had air ride seat, cab, suspension, unless it was a yard truck or something for very short distances. That being said it's been like 7yrs since I drove for a living.
This was my truck back in early to mid 2000’s. The whole top of the cab had air suspension, and had a very unique way of driving. It kinda floated independently from the rest of the chassis. Living quarters like no other truck in Europe, in my opinion.
470hp Mack 12 liter. Rather anemic when pulling 114k lbs in the mountains.

Trailer had a 20” extension in the middle for hauling long stuff, and hydraulic steering on the trailer axles for getting around the tighter areas.
I did quite a bit of long and wide loads, and the trailer was worth its weight in gold sometimes.

That's a wild looking truck. I've seen some of the Volvos that seem as though the cab was going to fall off in the turns, the guys say you get used to it lol.
470 isn't much at all in the mountains with 80k. Were those 114k loads a permit load, or an everyday load.
I did everything I could to avoid any overnight loads. When I was looking for a driving job I would call all potential employers on Saturday, if they answered I hung up and they were off the list, I figure if someone is there on Saturday then someone is in a truck too.
I hauled a stretch trailer hauling bridge beams and rebar for bridges, sometimes things got very interesting, cars can get pretty impatient when your taking up all the lanes on multiple rds :p.

Is that what you guys call the cabovers. They can get into spots a truck with a hood can't.
Here's a picture of one just like the one I drove except the color. It had a 450hp motor with a 13sp trans, it pulled well, but the ride....

I pulled doubles/two 26' trailers behind the truck I drove like the one above, guys were amazed at how I could snake them around and how I could back them. Whats funny is I was only 22-23 when I pulled that setup, then I went to an eight axle setup, guys would look at me like I was trying to steal the truck when I go in it lol.

What's a topper. That beast I was driving you couldn't keep a pop/soda in the cup holder when empty, it wouldn't just spill, it would fly out of it, loaded was a little better. Now the steel coils they rode better than I did as the double trailers I hauled were air ride aluminum, one day I couldn't find my soda when I got in the truck, the next day and 180 miles down the rd I found it sitting right where I set it when I got loaded.

You just reminded me my 4300 is at a buddies house, need to grab it as well as my 2152 I've never ran lol.
The 241 is a nice little saw, too bad it's way more cash than a 4300, I have a ported 241, fun saw.

It was meant too be tipper

It took me a while to get used to it, too. My first job in Ireland ten years ago was driving a tow truck. We worked mainly for recovery for the police. I saw a lot of crazy stuff.
One day I was in a hurry to return to base at the end of my shift. I hit a dip in the road, and between that and the cab suspension, I was nearly ejected out the window.

It took him that long to source parts. Took him forever to find a good bed. Ended up using a bed off a 2016. Good strait beds are hens teeth for the 99-03 trucks at a decent price.

It was a mess for sure. But i feel we won? Amazingly no serious injuries!

Local praxair is doubling current size and storage tanks are coming in. This one is set in place and holds a vacuum but the manufacturing company is coming down to do an inspection on it. It seems that in transport it started bouncing a bit just as it went under a bridge and had a few impacts. I'll see if I can get some pictures of the top at some point.

114k lbs was max legal weight on that set, for everyday driving. No permits needed, unless one of the roads you were going to be on were rated lower. There’s a whole book of road ratings we needed to have with us at all times. The general limit is 50 metric tonnes, given you have all the correct axles, spacing, etc. Then there’s a leeway of 1 ton per vehicle, so 2 tonnes in total. Making it 52,000 kg which is just over 114k lbs. That set was particularly heavy empty, because of all the add ons on the trailer. The extension and axles and hydraulics put me up to 22 metric empty, about 48k lbs.

Yes, a lot of people aren’t very patient when it comes to wide and long loads. We did a fair amount of it in the middle of the night, as the roads were too narrow to meet much other traffic. Police escort helps tremendously. Lol

It took a while for me to get used to, and after that I thought everything else rode like bucking broncos. Lol

I never really made it further than Denmark. Most of my hauls were pretty local, and I was home most nights. We did a lot of hauling for mechanical contractors and steel suppliers, and we had a ship yard as our biggest client. A lot of my time was spent rigging and loading/unloading.
We had a few other trucks that did mostly building supplies and hazmat hauls for water treatment plants and such.

A bud of mine was in the local pd at the time. He calls me over and says, 'Yer gonna wanna use gloves'. I told him, 'I ain't even gonna get in the thing - it's winch time'
This dude was parked outside someones house in Round Rock, TX, just enjoying himself when the police came along and ruined his evening.

You'll only be a winner after kicking that guy in the blue Dodge's ass.

Working on a fence for a guy and he borrowed the neighbors backhoe... running a John Deere hoe makes me really appreciate my Case. What a piece of junk, and I can’t stand JD controls.

Better than a shovel, I guess.

After running excavators for years, I get too frustrated on a backhoe, it feels like torture in comparison! Lol

But it’s better than a shovel for sure!

So if I understand correctly, a bad hoe is still better than no hoe.
Provided said hoe doesn't provide the itches.

A passing shower here currently.
And some flowers that popped up from where my kids had spread some seeds this spring.
