Lived most my life in a part of the U.S. that had lots of land turtles/torsoise/terrapine. Not until I'd "rescued" many from the road and relocated them for years did I learn that they don't make it outside the immediate area you find them.

I did read an article about them. It you see one in the highway, you can help them across as long as you place them in the same direction they were going. It was an interesting read but I can't remember all the details.

That's what I was told. Another thing I learned is when you see an aquatic variety headed overland, it's most likely headed to a specific area to make a nest, lay eggs.
