I just noticed that you have a distributor with electronic advance. Mine was vacuum advance, so I could recurve. I'm not much of a fan of electronics on an engine or transmission. I'm old school, or, just old.

Ha! I'm the opposite. I embrace electronic fuel and ignition systems!

I did like the electronic ignition, just not the ford box. Any humidity and they would go nuts. So I changed them out with a msd-6a box or a mopar box. You learn alot about ignition systems that way. An example would be, the magnetic pickup doesn't care what kind of ECM you use. I have also installed a few point saver ignitions from Kirk Engines, in anything that has points. Garden tractors to big boy tractors to war era dodge power wagons

They make an HEI distributor for the 300 now. If I ever go Holley sniper I'm running the HEI!

Awesome Steve! Am curious how those plugs work!! Keep us updated!

Plugs where a dud! Would not consistently spark. I had my doubts using iridium in a low energy ignition system. Would not idle smoothly and hesitated badly on a snap throttle. Went and got some new motorcraft stock copper plugs. Now idles like it's not running and crisp throttle response. Who knew?!!!

I have had good results with high comp tight clearance motors with weak spark and iridium’s. And some poor combustion chamber weak spark stuff and protruded iridium’s helped, but with good spark the iridium’s didn’t like to idle. Ford spent some money engineering the stock plugs. What is the squish/quench on that motor? I think that’s probably the ping issue, but could be wrong. Most stuff detonated with too much squish, and production stuff usually has a lot. My 305 pings a little under heavy load as well, dose not bug me though.
On a side note, our 89 f super duty with a 460/5spd Just started pinging, in a cruse if our punch it it pings, or heavy load. Haven’t checked the fuel pressure. It’s also hard starting hot, like the battery is weak. When it’s cold, cranks over like it should, and starts and idles perfect. Temp is normal.

Nice lookin dog. How old is he?

Sent from my SM-G950W using Tapatalk
He will be 9 months on the 22nd. Very well behaved fella. I feel fortunate to have found him. I’ve wanted a Dobie for many years but they are crazy expensive. This family was relocating and the lease they signed didn’t allow aggressive breeds.

Aggressive breeds.
Like chihuahuas and cocker spaniels.
Both a couple of biting mf'ers.
