Another bunch of smiling faces from a great day on the water. I dont think one of them could say they had a bad day with a strait face!

Thats great news! How is your other grand twin doing? How are mom and dad doing?

I know first hand how scary its is when a newborn is not healthy. My son was in NICU for the first month of his life for many ailments. He is 8 now and you would never know he had a rough start! He is doing just fine now.

LOL other twin is 2lbs heavier and a pork chop for now. They are fraternal twins.
All is very well, we are going to see them tomorrow its a 4 hour drive and a ferry ride.
The entire family will be there..

Holy sludge Batman!

And carbon. And broken ring lands.
Those are hard to see with all the goo on the slugs..
I had to scrape the top of the bore above where the top ring rides. I couldnt knock the damn pistons out with all the build up.
The whole thing is pretty gnarly inside.

Day 2 of a haze due to smoke coming from Canadian wild fires.

Of course, that being said, I'm naturally blaming @GCJenks204

:D

Local news said these fires are just north of Winnipeg.
Any truth to that Gary?
I blame him for sharing too much cold air then not enough and never getting me the winning powerball numbers too.

So what the Generals fix it book say to do on that?

Replace the pistons and get the asshat owners to change the farkin oil regularly.

But, who knows how long it will last..

I think the General has yet to figure out a decent alloy to use on the pistons of the turbocharged engines.
They tell me fractures between the ring lands are from use of non Dexos oil...
Put that in the oil thread!

I am going to guess the ring land cracks are from oil build up not letting the rings have enough room to expand. All of the turbo threads and research I have done, on 5.3 junk, is they can handle 600-ish hp on a stock bottom end, if you gap the rings they are good to 1000+ and have seen 1300+ with rings gapped and head studs, that’s with stock pistons and rods. So I would tend to believe gm on that oil! Lol

I kind of agree. But, how much boost?
These are only seeing roughly 15 psi. max.
Also, they are only 1.4, 1.5, 2.0 liter displacement.
The rod journals barely fit down the bore on these.
There is such little tension on the rings I push the piston out of the compressor into the bore with my thumbs.

GM engines have been around for a while and I find it hard to believe that in order to make 100k miles they now require magical Dexos oil.
Then again 5,000 and 7,500 mile change intervals don't do them any favors in my opinion! :copas:

Truth be told, unless a person was to completely tear it down and hot tank it, you can only get out and clean up what you can get to..

Thats what I was wondering.

P.S. I'll never by another 2000 model year or newer GM car( if they still make any) after owning a 97 Lumina.

I think it the interval of the oil changes that’s the issue, magical oil, can only do so much! Lol and the low tension rings make it happen faster! Plus I would guess if someone sees a 7500 mile interval they will go 10-15k before they change it! I am a believer in changing oil often! I see it in quads all the time!!
