After viewing the photo, US National Weather Service Medford Oregon stated to Scott Valley News, "I've seen these happen and they're really cool. The sun is rising, but still below the horizon. The sunlight is still being blocked by a distant mountain, which we have determined is Mt. Shasta. Sunlight is able to shine on the clouds from beneath, except in the area where it is blocked by the mountain (shadow). Nice shot!"

I didnt take them with me because I was headed to eat. Didnt want to look weird with big nuts in my pocket. I'll be going back to the arch for a ride to the top and plan to get some.

Topping out was a problem. Do to the time of year the north part was cold and contracted so the end curled up and the south half, having the flat part in the sun, curled down from the heat expansion.

SLFD had snorkel trucks pumping water from the river and running it on the flat side.

I watched it on tv.
