Ot sure on the total cost of this fix but each one of these bearings are custom to the unit in a printing press at my job and cost $3600.20180827_184201.jpg

How old are the bad bearings?

8 years old. They have an oiling system that is supposed to squirt every so many revolutions. In the 2 weeks that it's been down no has checked if it was plugged. The gear side is in an oil bath. And the last generation of these presses both sides were oil bath. So much for improvements.

They should last a helluva lot longer than that. They probably never see dirt?

Nope no dirt. And the gear side was perfect. We have a little 2 color press in here that they bought brand new in 74 and it's never missed a lick. Of course it has the full oil bath system.

We have thousands of bearings turning 24/7 at work ( a lot of rolls just like your printing press). Most of the machines are 40+ years old and very few bearing failures. I prefer synthetic grease over oil bath lubrication but each has their place.

Tell your engineer to get his head outta his ass. [emoji38]

These came from Japan. And the bearing is on the impression cylinder. It's hard to tell but there is two rows of needle bearing in it. And when its running them things are sealed up. I feel like I should give them the link to the oiler mod thread here lol.

P.s. my engineer thinks oil is gonna kill dolphins and *s-word and uses it sparingly.
