Last Bear I killed was WAAAY down the mountain.
In order to find it again (with some help) I would make big circles in the leaves with my boot all the way up the mountain (follow the circles back).
Each circle I made had 50 or more grub worms start wiggling, every single one, all the way up the mountain.
Started looking & they were even in the trees where the limbs forked from the trunk.
THOUSANDS of them for a 1/2 mile at least!
I've never seen it before or since.
Good place to Bear hunt. Lol

Those things are in any pine firewood or logs here they move in fast pine sawyer beetles, I’m not sure if that’s the exact same beetle, but closely resembles. Near a woodpile in the summer you can just hear them munching away. Chickens go nuts to eat them

I took this picture yesterday of a stock dam. Last year around this time I drove through it. Looks like I will not need to haul water this year!! 👍

Notice the lack of snow?? Well this is today. Some melted already. Different place obviously. They say, we have a chance of getting a Blizzard.

The ones I found I collected for my Runner ducks, they had a feast.
Although, they were reluctant to go for the mature bugs.
I didn't even notice, good eye & imagination!

This is what Google Lense came up with and the description fits perfectly.
The ones I encountered made Swiss cheese out of a otherwise healthy looking oak trunk/log.
