my local dealer started marketing and dealing masport mowers are they good units or no?

What motors do they have on them ?Briggs and stratton ohv? Masport is a respected brand here thats been around for a long time, they usually run Briggs over here .

They are sold in quality mower shops here and the big box hardware stores. I think they mainly have Briggs motors but I think I've seen a Honda on one too. I use the factory Honda push mowers but if I wanted a decent mower at 1/2 the price of what the Honda's cost, a Masport would be worth looking at. Where I mow its not pretty nice suburban lawns that are smooth clean & flat with no contamination (sticks, rocks, etc), its horrible bushy land with lots of dust and hidden objects ready to wreck my mower. So I buy Honda's and pretty much destroy one in 2-3 years after many sets of wheels, several hundred blade changes, pull starters, bag catchers etc. The motors are the last things to fail if treated well with clean oil/filters. I nearly bought a masport from a closing down mower shop as a spare as it was cheap, they seamed fairly well made.

good to hear i was mainly looking at the utility model and the deck design caught my eye and i was suprised how light it was.
there is two engine options available here in the states either a briggs or honda.

briggs ohv or Honda gcv160 either is a option i was looking at the utility models.

the site I looked at didn't show the honda choice until you got into the contractor/ bagger models. Are you showing a utility with a Honda as an option?

my dealer told me the utility comes with a briggs but i can special order one with a Honda for around twenty more dollars.

Masport is a good brand I would pay the extra money Jake and put the Honda on it you can't beat Honda reliability

only fault i see is a short handle bar and a lack of adjustability.

We're a masport dealer here and have never had an issue with them. I have an old s21 utility with a side valve Briggs on it and it goes great guns. Stihl used to get the push mowers and badge them as the Viking brand over here

that's my old girl. It saw a lot of hard work before I got it and not well looked after. Pulled it down and stuck a set of rings in it replaced the filters, plug, blades and axle bushes and happy days

Im impressed with the weight on the mower. going by the specs on the utility, it looks almost as light as the old lawn boys.
