Ok so a friend of mine brought me 2 poulan wild thing chainsaws I haven't started tearing them down yet but he wants me to do a little port work and open them up also. My question is this these things are basically like the husky 142 clamshell right? One of them is in pretty good shape the other had the tank handle ran over by a tractor. I'm hoping to rebuild these on the cheap as they won't be worth much when they are done.

Yes, similar clamshell saws. But the 142 intake is different with bulkhead, boot and impulse grommet. I like the wild thing intake better.

Yeah I had a time with the intake on the 142 kept leaking air cause of the design.

Ok so got the saw rebuilt opened the exhaust up and widened the intake also opened up the muffler. haven't run it in wood yet but it 4 strokes to 14k kinda scared to turn it up any higher it feels like it could explode at any minute at 14,000 lol. Also the intake is better design than the 142. Also the coating in the cylinder seems really thin.

Also there is a big difference between the tank handles on the 2375 and the 4016 wild thing they are not interchangeable.

The wild thing motor doesn't have a plated cylinder bore ,that's aluminum, the piston is plated.

I wondered that while I was working on it it. So is that why the saw is only supposed to be good for about 120 hours of work? It will be interesting to see how long it holds up after being ported.

The 142 is a better alround saw,the cylinder is plated,it has anti vibe, the intake problems can be corrected with the use of motoseal in the right places.

I'd bet the 120 hours is the EPA compliance period.
One thing to watch...coil screws - they can back out of plastic chassis. Had one back out and bounce on the flywheel, sending fins a flying. Trimmer line in coil holes and new flywheel - saw keeps on ticking.

Yeah both of the ones I'm rebuilding for my buddy have no antivibe. one was practically brand new but had the handle run over the other has seen some abuse. Had a guy at the heritage festival with one that was ported with a pipe ran pretty good.

I have a couple 42cc poulan saws here I've ported too. They run pretty good if you can keep fuel to them.
