Working on this beauty for a friend. I should have known better but that's what friends are for, right?

Rebuilt the carb and replaced the fuel lines, fuel filter, and air filter. The problem is it's very hard starting. I've played with the carb and can get it to run somewhat ok once warm, but cold starts are a problem.

It has a Zama W26C carb. According to Zama, initial settings for L and H are 2 turns out. The L ends up right around 1 turn out and I'm wondering if this is part of the problem?

I'm getting the same behavior as on my Husky 235e... runs great once warm. Both saws have that secondary strato butterfly.

I also can't find anything regarding idle or max RPM. She idles at right around 3ooo but I'm pretty sure she's too fat on the top end at about 12000.

Besides finding the closest dumpster, can anyone shed any light on this?

I take trade-ins when I sell a saw. Of the 4 strato Poulans I've gotten, each one had a scored P&C and gets tossed in the parts box. If I ever get a good trade in, I'm gonna try this - pull the strato plate off the carb and plug the intake strato hole and see how it behaves. Or put a 1990-2005 Poulan carb on it - eg: WT891.

L screw is normal 1 to 1 to 1 and 1/4 H screw can be 2 to 4 turns if that don't work clean it again. I have to work on cheap stuff a lot. Really like this carburetor. If it will clean they run good.
