So this saw’s new owner is....

Drumroll...

Me.

It runs great, has compression, but it failed post run piston inspection. Even though the jug looked clean, it has vertical ribbing in the plating that was cleaned up before me and is not completely smooth. Can’t catch with a nail, but can be felt with a finger pad. Really wasn’t apparent to the naked eye and looked fine before scotchbrite hone and assembly.

The jug will run fine, but can’t be sold like this. Current setup going on a good buddy’s work saw. Initial buyer refunded in full and a new top end will be done.

A lot less time/expense/aggravation making sure it’s all right before it leaves. A new top end will be going on this saw and the sequence repeated. The original purchaser still wants the saw when complete.

The light spots on the plating are the high parts. I hit them with 150 and 320 on a split mandrel.

Only seen this in straight gasses saws. It’s almost like the heat allows the aluminum transfer to warp the plating and make peaks and valleys.

I’m quite happy this was discovered before it left here. I can’t sell a saw with a jug like this.

Pushing “like” for what you’re saying, not what I’m seeing in the pix. Glad you caught that like you said...

Can’t ‘like’ the situation as I understand how valuable your time and work is, but I can certainly ‘like’ the attention to the details and the integrity.

Maybe send that jug off to U.S. Chrome with it coming back with a more bigger slug?
