Does anyone know if it is necessary to cut a pop up on the piston of a Husqvarna 394xp if you omit the base gasket? Also, is it worth doing in the first place?

Yeah... The decomp on that saw after a base delete is a nice option. ;)

Alrighty I am back from the shop. I had a 346 to sharpen the chain and give a once over before I lend it out to my Dad. While I was at it I took a compression test on the 394 with a base gasket delete and got 166 psi at 4200' elevation, or about 186 at sea level. Stock it blew 120 psi at this elevation, and I started off with .047" squish, and a gasket thickness of .017" for a final squish of .030" with the gasket deleted. Numbers went from 105.5, 72, 125, to ported at 101, 79, 121. Pulls a 32" bar well.

Ok thanks guys! I guess I'll give it a go without the gasket.
