Plug for Echo Decompression Valve?

Hello, folks,

Does anyone know of a ready-made plug with gasket/seal washer to replace the decompression valve on Echo saws? Models are CS-4910, CS-620, and CS-7310, if that matters (I think they're all the same thread size, but am not sure). I know they're a different size than what Stihl and Husky use. I don't use these devices on my saws, and would like to plug them to eliminate the possibility of future air leaks.

I can't find the thread size online, but I found two sources for OEM compression valve plugs. These should fit the 4910, at least. Have you checked if they are the same diameter on all three saws? It will be fairly easy to unscrew them and measure them, if you have calipers and a screw pitch gauge.

Thanks, Simon. I've seen two part numbers for the Echo OEM plugs, 91155 and 91177, but no explanation of how they are different. It may be as simple as a different number of washers in the kit or something. I thought I'd see if anyone had a quick answer, otherwise for $15+ per kit I may just figure out size and pitch as you suggest and visit the hardware store for bolts and copper washers, since I want to do all three.

Thanks. I had missed that second part number. I found an Echo tool manual online that references it. The size is given as M10 x 1.0 which is the same size as the Stihl and Husqvarna ones. I'm guessing that the 7310 might take that one and the 91155 might be smaller, and fit the smaller saws. But it is just a guess.

I can confirm that the 7310 has the same threads as Husqvarna. The threads on the others is different, coarser, I think.

Well, I delayed this evening's planned project because I got curious, plus in the morning I have an appointment an hour away in a city that has a real hardware store. So I'm banking on them having the bolts I need...

The 4910 and the 620's plugs are the same, and are M10x1.25 thread, according to my thread-checker set. The threaded shank is 9mm long below the washer, which looks to be a steel U-profile crush washer like you see on some spark plugs. So I'm thinking a 10mm long threaded shank will work well with a copper washer on it. The existing washer is 14mm OD, and I just so happen to have a copper brake washer assortment that has some 10mmID/14mmOD washers in it.

As EFSM has already confirmed, the thread on the 7310 plug is M10x1.0. The rest of the dimensions are the same. So off to the hardware store I go.

I just wanted to record this in case someone else has the same question down the road somewhere. Thanks again to everyone who offered help and advice, I very much appreciate it!

It can't leak, and if its a combustion chamber mounted valve it can't drop the valve into the cylinder should it fail. That said I run valves on all of mine.

I certainly wouldn’t change them out to plugs. I’ve never seen a valve fail (even though I’m sure it can happen), even when they’re loose as can be and missing the plastic cap.

I've only ever heard of a stihl eating a valve and it was quite some time ago.
