Hello Folks, I am new here. Just wanted an opinion from more experienced cutters. I own 3 Husqvarna saws a 50 special, a 55 rancher and a 266xp is there anything I need to watch for on these saws as they are all getting up there in age. Thanks

Those are all good saws.

Watch the intake tract on the the 50, and the 55.

They have a few spots that tend to leak as they age. Just be aware of the tune (always four stroking out of the cut) and you'll be fine with them. If they ever start sounding lean, stop using them and check em over.

When you rev a two stroke engine without a load on it, it should never sound smooth. Instead it should have a missing, or burbling sound

You can search chainsaw tuning in YouTube and find some good examples.

Another question, I have a 16" on the 50 special 18" on the 55 rancher and a 20" on the 266. Is that where I should stay? or is there some other combination I can (should) use?

Does that bar/chain line up meet your needs? It sound right to me. Could probably use a 24" on the 266 if you needed it for a job but for a full time bar it would be happy with the 20".

Anywhere from 20-24 on the 266 would be ideal. I bet it would pull a 28 just fine on occasion, if you needed it to.

Up till now they all work great. I have just seen other forums and similar saws in ads that have different bar lengths. Just thought I would ask more experienced users.

1) OIL/ Grease the needle bearings for the clutch (often neglected) and 2) grease the bar tip sprockets; 3) Deep clean/ Inspect ALL w/ scraper air hose, with carb inlet securely covered, 4) replace fuel line, filters, spark plugs; 5) Inspect, sharpen/ replace chain/ dress or replace bar. (TIP: I recently replaced what I thought was a clean felt AF w/ new, went from 3-cuts/tank fuel to 5 (millings)); may not be clean when you think it is...
