Just my $.02 here ....

Some of the early 361s were known to have a wonky coil here and there. I've had great success (and saved some $$) by using coils from Huztl on eBay.

Another note on aftermarket coils: Many OEM coils will only fire if the flywheel RPM reaches a certain minimum speed. It seems that some of the aftermarket ones do not have this requirement. I had a Shindaiwa 488 that would start on a 6" rope pull.

If you don't find a used one let me know. I can get you a new one at dealer cost.
Thanks Randy! I figure I will give this a few days. I am tired of the AM coils lasting for about 5 tanks of gas. If I don’t find a used one, I will reach out.

The saw I am having trouble with is a 361 clone that I built with my boys for Christmas last year. The saw runs awesome with a ported OEM top end and a Tilly carb. Only problem is that it has cooked the original kit coil and a second one now in about 10 tanks of runtime. Maybe AM is fine, but my experience hasn’t been good so far.

I believe the 361 coil is the worst aftermarket coil. Bar none.
