Hit up Tor and Steve. They should be able to tell you. Oh and nice score btw.Question for you fappers.
I snagged a couple orange saws this week. 254 and a 272. Both are projects and I haven't gotten them yet so I'm not exactly sure what parts are needed.
Question is this,
are there any parts combos for these saws that seem to make them run better when compared to other 254 or 272 saws?
Like is there a particular cylinder and/or carb combo to look for.
Kinda new to messing with them orange saws.

Thanks for the info Steve. The 254 is an SE model so I'm assuming it's an early one. It has the small square sticker on the starter housing. If you end up short on time, I am looking for a 272 project to do for a fella if you decide you want to sell.

The 272 I really don't know much about yet. All I know is that it's been "blown up". I'm thinking it will get hot rodded and will end up keeping its rat rod appearance.View attachment 119604
Good evening Dave. How are you doing?Good evening guy'sView attachment 119610
Good evening Steve. How are you doing tonight? Oh and gfy. Will be a very simple 254 as they progressively got better with more stuffs added like air injection and heat shields for the exhaust. Early ones had the desirable metal seal housing for the flywheel side vs the later plastic versions. Remember to replace all the Orings along with the seals. If you decide to update it, it becomes a major conversion process as a lot of accompanying parts need to be changed to make it work. I've done this and wouldn't recommend it as too many parts are NLA for the 254. The 272 on the other hand everything but the HD filter set up can be had from Husqvarna. Crankshafts were updated from the very earliest models and there's only 2 IPL's for the 272, not a lot of change on these, pretty much got them right from the get go.
