Dam! I know your winters are longer than mine. But I think my Uncle uses half that. Do those OWB use more wood bu nature?

Could heat just the house with that, also heat a small shop and hot water. This year ran all year for hot water. Just recently shut it down to go on vacation, won't be long before it has to be fired right back up.

corn cobs and whole uncracked walnuts produce some amazing long lasting heat.
i burned a dump truck of corn cobs two winters back.

i get mine from the local amish the shell the corn and deliver the cobbs to me for only a fuel charge of 15.00

Species of wood used makes a big difference as well. I get a lot of free white pine delivered, and have to burn twice as much to get the same result.

Oh yeah, was splitting jack pine today, it's a favorite, red pine is real good too. White pine, spruce, balsam and basswood burn a little fast, Ok in spring and fall. Winter I like to use the better woods like tamarack, oak and sugar maple for overnight, birch, soft maple, popple and pines in the day time.
