I agree, that smaller hole seems like a step backwards. When you enlarge the hole do you chamfer or angle it up any? Or do you just make it bigger?

Bigger and chamfer it both. I use a tear drop shaped diamond bit. Push it instead the angle the hole is to enlarge, than tip it towards the back to give it a little extra.

I've seen these bars with the hole full of paint and no oil at all.

Yes, and they suck. Port is smaller than anything else on the entire saw. Does not allow adequate oiling. Solve the problem? Oregon created the problem. Look at all the old time bars, they had 1/4" holes for the oil to flow in. Does not take much sawdust to plug it up when there's just a little bitty hole. As far as I am concerned, Oregon has a big bill coming from me and an even bigger GFY.

I dislike Oregon, I'm pretty sure they are made out of cheese.

Forester bars are half to third the price. The Forester bars I've ran have lasted 2-3 times longer than the Oregon bars I've ran

Where did that excactly fail?
The opening by the fill hole is not supposed to be open. It's a divider plate that falls out between the fuel tank and oil tank. It's common on the pioneer/partner saws and the pioneer based poulans.

I have had good luck with the Forester bars as well. Was it you that said you were a dealer for them?

I'd rather port the Oregon than try another Forester B&C. Tried it once, made real nice half moon cuts. I buried it under the apple tree, to at least get some good out of it, that and no one else would have to use it. Was it a fluke, did I just get a bad one? Well if that is their version of a Pro bar and chain they can GFT's.

Never ran forester bars I prefer the carlton bars. I read somewhere the new ones were made from the same cheese factory as the Oregon,

Maybe the one you had was real bad and I just got lucky with mine. I have a 32 inch forester that has cut a lot of wood and zero problems at all.

Carlton and Oregon are both owned by the same company. If it says made in Canada, that's from the old Windsor plant If it says USA then the plant in Oregon.

Ahlborn Equipment(Forester) is in the next county from me. I know kinfolk that get a family discount there that buy Carlton Chain as the Forester is junk. You can pretty much take that as a quote.

You must have had a bad bar, I've had nothing but good luck with them and everyone who's gotten one from me hasn't had any complaints.

A week or so back my sales rep sent me a loop of their "new and improved" Forester chain.

I've never ran their branded chain before because Carlton isn't much more so I've always opted for Carlton.

The other day I tried the loop of Forester. Carlton cuts better right of the roll. I haven't ran it long enough to dull it so I can't comment on longevity.
