Even if insurance was had the insurance company will still come out and screw him over

I think they live for that my last insurance company want 5000 deductible for roof hail damage. If. I needed to replace it would have been 2000 in supplies. I have a small house

It started as the garage and caught some of the house. The house went up last night and now the fire department showed up for the 4th time just nowView attachment 44201Sunday morning View attachment 44202Monday morning

That just sucks ass. I have to ask, volunteer department or city department? I can't imagine 4 separate responses to one incident.

City departments. It's the artic cold that don't help. When the water evaporates or freezes up so fast nothing can stay wet for long.20161212_095722.jpga pic of 1 of 3 explosions that happened from the garage

The fire our department got called to two weeks ago, they had to go back two or three times throughout the night because of hot spots the guys missed that flared up.

I really feel for your neighbour. I can see him getting screwed 6 ways from Sunday. His insurance is likely going to fight about paying for tools and business costs because normally people only have household not business insurance. The insurance company is likely also going to want compensation from the city's insurer or sue for negligence of the department.

We deal with cold weather fire fighting as well (currently 4f below here) and what our department goes through to prevent these types of occurrences is quite intensive. I have heard stories of crews sitting on scene for hours monitoring for hot spots or flair ups. With the cold they rotate crews in and every time a new crew arrives they take their heat guns and have to walk the entire scene to make sure it's safe.

If I were a betting man I would guess no one cut the power to the house after the first incident which has now resulted in a total loss.

Just sucks so much for your friend, these types of things should be preventable. I will try and remember this incident next time I go on one my rants IRL about our building codes and why they shouldn't be written by the Fire Commissioners office.

Volunteer departments don't get enough credit for what they do. City department held to a different set of standards.

Our department is volunteer. They generally are always looking for help. It's a huge commitment for not much compensation, especially the first two to three years.

3 months of MFR classes three nights a week

After that is Fire Academy that's 6 months and 2-3 nights a week

Then 6 months of EMT school that's 2-3 nights a week

That's not including the two nights a month that they all meet for regular meetings on top of that.

Thankfully the department made a exception for my wife. They hired her for medical callsonly so she won't be going to fire academy. And because she's a nurse they got her into a online EMT program so she can take the classes from home.

But if I get hired on I'll be having to go through all that.
