Guess I should have checked north west Indiana, and south west Michigan weather...

Bet they got 8-12" on the hwy still single lane, watching the edge suck in little cars one by one.

Just made it to mi, still have 150 miles left, 25-35 mph. May just take a nap and finish when I wake up...

Morning fellas

I just read a little bit in the oil thread. Why do people think winter bar oil is better? Hell I run a saw all day everyday and have never used it ever. No failures from not using it either. Oil is kept under the muffler on any modern saw. Run the saw for a tank and it's so hot in there that no matter what weight oil you use its still dammed near thin as water. Winter oil always seemed to me like it was only beneficial because in 15F or colder weather you didn't have to squeeze it out of the jug. Can't say I know any loggers that use it.
I could not get that Cam2 oil to even come outta the jug it was so thick. I had to put some fuel oil in the jug just to thin it out enough.

I tore up one pump drive from using it.
For me it's just easier to get winter blend than *f-word around thinning oil or changing drives out.

http://www.agrisupply.com/itasca-bar-and-chain-oil/p/16332/. We use that brand. One weight all year. Never had any trouble and it's cheap, like 42 bucks for 6 gallons.

I've seen that stuff around here somewhere.
My biggest problem is if I leave everything outside, then go and try to cut. It's all so cold that it take forever to get the oil warmed up.
If I bring them in and there warm to start with. It doesn't matter much with the oil.

I'm just a firewood hack and only cut 30-50 cords a year. So I only cut when I have time and don't plan on it much.

Yep we both cut wood but arent very much alike!! I use about 5 gallons of bar oil a week and all my stuff sits out in the cold all the time. Saws are in a locked toolbox. Oil hangs out in the bed wherever it gets tossed. It's always fun when you poke a hole in the bottom of a jug and don't know it till you see an oil slick in the bed of your truck at the end of the day.... Or when you forget to put your gas and oil caps back on your saw and throw it on your shoulder.... Been there done that... A couple times.

That is very true, if I was cutting full time. I would do stuff completely different.
But like everything in life. What works for me, may never work for you.

What you spend on oil a week is enough for all winter for me. For me to spend a few dollars more for convenience makes sense.
For you it's taking money outta your pocket fast.
