Good Mike. Got my turn outs at the fire department last night. They're glad to have the help. My firefighter certificate is still active, I just need to refamiliarize myself with equipment.

I wasn't a first responder before and likely will not do so this go around with the exception of vehicular accidents.

MFR. We're 5 miles from town, so in most instances where an ambulance rolls, they beat us there.

Are you medically trained or not?
Our station requires everyone to be fire trained and medical trained. Years ago they used to allow guys to pick and choose. They found out that everyone only wanted to be fire trained, so they didn't have enough personnel to run medicals. I'd say 75% of our calls are medical. The rest are PI accidents and we may get 1 or 2 actual fire's a year.


Our department will not allow you to run medicals unless you are medically trained. Our department is working on becoming a EMT station.

When Lisa joined they were thinking that they wouldn't need to send her through medical classes seeing she is a RN and has been through 4 years of school. They found out that her license does not cover her working outside of the hospital. So she is having to go through EMT.

Not. It has no bearing on ISO rating and I mentioned the response time of the local ambulance service...So

If we were running a full time EMT service out of our VFD, I'd expect someone would want to be paid.

Gotcha

They call us a VFD, but only in the aspect that we are not required to show up to every call.
We do get paid for every call we run.
